I also work at the Clemmons Library where Don was on our Friends Board when he & Marlene lived in Clemmons. Marlene & Beth we are very sorry for your loss!

Marlene & Beth,
Words cannot express my sorrow for you during this time. As long as I have known Don, there was never anything as important to him as family. Even though I knew you, Marlene from here at the college, I felt I knew Beth just from all of Don's comments and stories about her. And though you already know, it was obvious that he loved both of you beyond measure.
I had heard several of Don's stories about different experiences that he had, but at the visitation I was amazed at the amount of living Don had packed into 64 years. What a blessing! To both of you and to those of us touched by his caring and generous spirit. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you.

Bob & I were shocked & saddened to see Don's obituary in the paper. We are out of town, but our hearts are with you and Beth this weekend as you say good by to your best friend and partner. We have not kept in touch, as we should have, in recent years, but we feel so close to you. Our past history will always be remembered as the turning point in our lives. I can still here Bob & Don talking about the gooney birds and Midway Island. We love you and are thinking of you.

Don was a very vibrant and caring person who really believed he was his brother's (and sister's) keeper. He also believed in living life to the fullest and answering the needs of others in as many ways as he was able. He seemed to get a great deal of pleasure out of conversing with people and had many experiences on which to draw for his "stories."
He will be missed.

I spoke with Don almost daily during his time at the Ashe Campus.I think about him calling me when I was in the hospital to see if I needed anything and to tell me to hang in there, I knew he was fighting his own battle but that was Don. He was a good friend to all and I will miss his friendship.

A privilege to have known Don! A caring and giving individual we enjoyed from our first meeting. There will be a void in our community and our hearts without his presence. No doubt he will be busy 'helping out' in heaven!
