Obituary of Mary Sue Royal

Mrs. Mary Sue Shepherd Royal, age 82, of Laurel Springs passed away peacefully with her family by her side Friday morning, January 12, 2018, at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Sonny Thomas and Rev. Joey McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Transou Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Royal was born in Ashe County on April 15, 1935 to the late Chester Lee and Zina Faye Sheets Shepherd. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and will be missed by all.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hubert Royal on October 26, 2006; a brother, Jerry Lee Shepherd;  a sister, Ola Kendall; a son-in-law, Dwight Phillips.

Mrs. Royal is survived by two daughters, Brenda Phillips, of West Jefferson and Phyllis Segraves and husband, Johnny, of Laurel Springs; a sister    , Anna Lee Poe, of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Darren Segraves and wife Noelle of Laurel Springs, Justin Phillips and wife Brittany of West Jefferson, and Johnny Brian Segraves and wife Vickie of Laurel Springs; five great-grandchildren, Reagan Phillips, Austin Phillips, Kasen Segraves, Asher Segraves, and Skylar Segraves; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family requests no flowers please!  Memorials may be made to Transou Methodist Church Cemetery, c/o Anna Lee Poe, 116 Hawthorne Lane, Jefferson, NC 28640.

The family will be meeting at the home of her daughter, Brenda Phillips at 1413 Nettle Knob Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
