Mrs. Martha Ann Pennington Blackburn Humphrey, age 84, of West Jefferson passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve LeaShomb, Rev. Tom Vestal and Rev. David Humphrey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm on Friday; two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Humphrey was born in Ashe County on March 6, 1933 to the late Sidney Stokes and Lou Tisha Ball Pennington. She retired from West Jefferson Elementary School; where she worked as a Teacher's Assistant. She enjoyed sewing, needle working and travelling. She was a loving mother and grandmother; she will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Arthur Edwin Blackburn and David Evander Humphrey. Mrs. Humphrey is survived by a daughter, Jane Dillard and husband, David, of Jefferson; three step-sons, David Humphrey and wife, Sharon, of St. Pauls, NC, Joey Humphrey, of Whiteville, NC and Richard Humphrey and wife, Sue, of Red Springs, NC; a sister, Shirley Thacker, of West Jefferson; two grandsons, Adrian Dillard and wife, Cindy, of Jefferson and Greg Dillard, of Concord; a step great grandson, Travis Hartsoe; several nieces and nephews also survive.
