Garnett was born in Alleghany County on January 21, 1933 and grew up in the Todd area. He drove the school bus and graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1951. Garnett served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran reaching the rank of Corporal (E4). He retired after 42 years of working with Spraque/Chemi-con, but did not stop working as he spent the next many years with "pick-up and delivery", assisting with new car sales for Superior Pontiac and others. Garnett had a passion for cars and you could find him working on his 1937 Chevy just a few months ago. He enjoyed NASCAR and riding motorcycles, he owned several motorcycles over his lifetime. Garnett had a reputation for keeping his vehicles spotless; his home and lawn were always well maintained. Our neighbor remarked on how the neighborhood felt compelled to keep their lawns in great shape to match Garnett's example. Garnett was married to Imogene Fox Goodman, his wife and true partner in life for 59 years. They shared everything together. In their younger years they loved to travel and took many road trips. Over the last few years they enjoyed being at home, participating in church activities and assisting with the care of older siblings. Garnett was a lifelong member of Laurel Knob Baptist Church. He was a loving husband; he will be missed by all. Garnett was preceded in death by his parents, Newton and Grace Wilcox Goodman, of Todd; a brother, Charles Dean Goodman, of Winston-Salem and a sister, Sue Little of Winston-Salem. He is survived by his wife, Imogene; a sister, Winnie Bowers, of Jefferson; two brothers, Glenn Goodman, of West Jefferson and N.G.
