"Sweet" is the word used most often to describe Mary Gwendolyn "Gwen" Gentry Elliott who was called to her heavenly home on April 2, 2018. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Elliott loved to go, go, go – anywhere and everywhere; she didn't want to miss a thing and loved being in the know and around all kinds of people! Prior to her declining health, Mrs. Elliott loved traveling, painting, knitting, crafting, gardening, and singing in the choir. As an artist, she taught many painting classes and was always so proud of her students who became lifelong friends. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. at Boone Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Loren Lung officiating. The family will receive friends at Boone Family from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A private burial will be held at Ashelawn. Mrs. Elliott was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church. She was born in Ashe County on May 20, 1929, to the late Rev. Herman and Ruth Shirley Gentry. Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond V. Elliott; a son, Tommy Elliott; and a brother, Jim Gentry. Surviving are a daughter, Diane Parsons and husband, Frank, of West Jefferson; four grandchildren, Shane Elliott and wife Kelly of Jefferson, Kristy Benfield of Leland, NC, Zane Parsons of Siler City, NC, and Jena Parsons of West Jefferson, NC; and six grandchildren, Sierra Roland, Katie Elliott, Xander and Drayden Benfield, and Gabby and Jaxon Parsons. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
