Mrs. Freda Jones McNeill, age 82, of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday night, April 4, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00am at Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church with Rev. Will Heyward officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. McNeill was born in Raleigh County, West Virginia on November 4, 1935 to the late Wade and Della Grace Yates Jones. She retired from Skyline Telephone Company; after 30 years. She cherished her family, faith and friends. She was a wonderful cook, basket weaver growing flowers and arranging them, cake decorating, seamstress and quilter. Freda was an honorary citizen of St. Mard, France; served as treasurer of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Central Ashe Optimist Club. She was a member of Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church; where she sang in the choir and participated in the circle. Freda was a very active member of the community until her illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fletcher McNeill (Bob); two sisters, Peggy Allen and Mary Lee Miller; a brother, Jerry Lee Jones. Mrs. McNeill is survived by a son, Dr. Robert E. (Bucky) McNeill and wife, Sally, of Salisbury; two daughters, Sherry McNeill, of Winston-Salem and Cindy Smith and husband, Randy, of Charlotte; two brothers, Bobby James Jones and wife, Ann, of Gibsonville and Tony Wade (Tobe) Jones, of Warrensville; two granddaughters, Laura Smith of Raleigh and Alison Smith of Charlotte; several nieces and nephews also survive.
