Winnie Goodman Bowers 3/16/1927 – 04/14/2018 Winnie departed this life on Saturday, April 14, 2018. She was born March 16, 1927 in Ashe County, NC to Newton Glenn and Grace Wilcox Goodman; the first of six children. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Miller and Rev. Dr. Jim Rash officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 6:30-8:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Winnie married the love of her life, Joseph Samuel (Sam) Bowers on March 24, 1951. She was employed by Ashe County Motors (Ford Dealership) for nearly 47 years. She retired as Office Manager after being awarded numerous times for her excellent work. Winnie and her husband, Sam, were very active members of Orion Baptist Church. She loved her church family, singing in the choir and caring for the children of the church. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, caring for her lawn, growing beautiful flowers and spoiling her pet cats. Although living all their adult lives in Ashe County, Winnie and Sam liked to travel; taking many tours within and outside of the United States. Winnie was preceded by her parents, her husband, a sister, Sue Little; two brothers, Dean Goodman and Garnett Goodman. She is survived by two brothers, Glenn Goodman of West Jefferson and N.G. Goodman and wife, Karen of Fleetwood; two sisters-in-law, Imogene Goodman, of Jefferson and Lynn Goodman, of Wilmington; two nieces, Janet Eaton and Glenda Goodman; six nephews, Bruce Goodman, Charles Goodman, David Goodman, Jerry Goodman, Mack Little and Donnie Little; plus her beloved cat, Crystal. The family requests no food or flowers.
