Obituary of James Garfield Bowman

Mr. James Garfield Bowman, better known as “Jim” age 70, of Crumpler, passed away Friday morning, April 20, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Jones and Rev. Jim Greer officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowman Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Monday, April 23, 2018; one hour prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Bowman was born in Carroll County, Virginia on November 26, 1947 to the late Oscar Jones and Lucille Bowman. He worked as a Truck driver. He was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. Jim enjoyed being outside on his tractor. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Racheal; they traveled all 50 states but Alaska.

Mr. Bowman is survived by his wife, Racheal McNeil Bowman; two sons, Joseph James Bowman,  of West Jefferson and Anthony Scott Bowman, of Radford, Virginia; two daughters, Margie Vest and husband, Eric, of Roanoke, Virginia and Sandra Bond and husband, Patrick, of Floyd, Virginia; two step daughters, Patricia Severt Calloway and husband, Mitchel, of Crumpler and Melissa Severt Lewis and husband, Brett, of Crumpler; his mother, Lucille Spangler, of Laurel Fork, Virginia; two brothers, Victor Spangler, of Hillsville, VA and Steven Spangler, of Laurel Fork, Virginia; two half-sister, Joyce Graham and Leona Brown, both of Virginia; a step sister, Joyce Daniels of Laurel Fork, Virginia; his special uncle, Woody “Paw” Jones of Virginia;  four grandchildren, Tyler Bond, Corey Bond, Jackson Vest and Isaac Vest; six step grandchildren, Mason Calloway, Emma Calloway, Mathis Calloway, Ethan Lewis, Hayden Lewis and Cohen Lewis,  several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family is meeting at the home place at 320 Island Ford Road in Crumpler.
