Obituary of Eldreth Rose Dillard

Eldreth Rose Hartzog Dillard, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, age 87, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Margate Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson, NC.

Mrs. Dillard was born in Ashe County, July 9, 1930, to Guy and Hazel Phillips Hartzog.

She attended Fleetwood School through the eleventh grade and completed her GED through Wilkes Community College at age 60.

She always loved cooking for her family and enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and crocheting. After working 30 years at Sara Lee Knit Products, she retired and then volunteered as a foster grandparent at Mountain View Elementary School for several years.

A long-time member of Obids Baptist Church, she began her walk with Christ at the age of 16 and was baptized in Old Fields Creek by Preacher S. Graybeal.

Including her parents, Mrs. Dillard was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Gene Dillard (May 17, 1969); a sister Ethel Church; brothers Johnny, Sammy, Ralph and Larry Hartzog and granddaughter Christian Ann Barker Clemens.

She is survived by her daughters: Clarasa Ann Barker and husband David of Madill, OK; Donna Cox and husband Fred of West Jefferson, NC and, Ina Jean Cox and fiancée Ronnie Barnes of Millers Creek, NC; two sisters, Toy Wyatt, of West Jefferson and Edith Bare, of Jefferson; two brothers, Roger Hartzog, of West Jefferson and Lee Hartzog, of Tennessee.

In addition, she is survived by eight grandchildren: Chene' Barker Cox, Travis Barker, Chad Cox, Michelle Cox Keith, Gene Barker, Mandy Cox Lovell, Candie Barker Ponczka and David Barker II; nineteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel in West Jefferson, NC, by Rev. Tom Graybeal and Rev. John Elledge. Burial will follow in the Obids Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Sunday, May 6, 2018, one hour prior to the funeral service.
