Obituary of Bryce A Blackburn

Mr. Bryce A Blackburn age 95 of West Jefferson passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, May 3rd. God granted him his wishes to be united with his love ones waiting in Heaven for him. He was born at Grassy Creek NC on October 24, 1922 to the late Avery and Ella Mae Blevins Blackburn.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11am at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday May 14, 2018 from 7-9pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Flowers and food may be accepted on Sunday May 13, 2018 at the home Talara Parrish, 108 North Jefferson Ave, West Jefferson, NC 28694.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Rev. Gwyn Blackburn, Dr. Earl Blackburn and Blaine Blackburn. Also four sisters, Lessie Cope, Arlene Jorgenson, Myrtle Wilgis and Angelyn Eller. Great grandson, Brody Patchell and his special Furbaby Elmo.

He was married on August 14, 1943 to Velma “Shorty” Little. They were together 64 years before she preceded him in death in 2007. Together they strived and succeeded to set a good example for all to follow. Their greatest wish was that the family would always stay close and take care of one another.

Bryce retired from Bare-Little Wholesale after working there for 47 years. Thru his work he made many friends which he never forgot. He served as Chief of Jefferson Fire Department for several years. He served as a Deacon at Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church in earlier years.

He leaves to cherish his memories, daughter; Brenda Witherspoon and husband Phil, step daughters; Dixie Gradowski and Patsy Miller both of Jefferson.

Five grandchildren; Talara Parrish of Jefferson, Tony Witherspoon, Terry Witherspoon (Valerie), Tyler Glenn (Frank), and Tabby Patchell (Mark) all of Jacksonville, FL.

Four step grandchildren; Charita Justice of Charlotte, Kelly Orth (Dave), California, Kim Grewen (Fred), GA and Kathy Lowe (Jerry) AZ.

Fourteen great grandchildren; Tiffany Knight, AJ Parrish, Larkin Witherspoon, Tanner Witherspoon, Kansas Hopkins, Samantha Hopkins, Rachel Stark, Brett Patchell, Erin HillPot, Maddix Bruyn, Brooke Langley, Sarah Ruiz, Katie Davidson, and Stephanie Lowe.

Eleven great - great grandchildren; Zachary, Sophia, Dylan, Bryce, Grady, Ryder, Alice, Calvin, Knox, Avery, and Emma.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.
