Obituary of Melba Wanda Hartsoe

Mrs. Melba Wanda Roten Hartsoe, age 87, of Warrensville passed away Thursday morning, June 7, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday. June 9, 2018 at 7:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Cornett, Brother Evan Roten, Brother Phil Arnold, and Brother Brandy Phipps officiating. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 10:00am at Sapp Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 5:00-7:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Hartsoe was born in Smyth County, Virginia on September 10, 1930 to the late Lillard Herbert and Lucy Clyde Johnson Roten. She retired from Sprague Electric Company after working 38 years. She was a faithful member of Three Forks Baptist Church in Creston. Melba enjoyed cooking, crocheting and fellowshipping with her family and friends. She always made you feel welcome and had a smile on her face. Melba was a loving mother, grandmother and sister; she will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband's Norman Roten and Curtis Hayes Hartsoe; five brothers, Charlie Roten, Robert Roten, Ray Roten, Joe Roten and Jack Roten; a sister, Helen Nitroy. Mrs. Hartsoe is survived by three sons , Eddie Roten and wife, Wanda, of Lansing, Carroll Roten and wife, Deaett, of Creston and Jerry "Fluff" Roten and wife, Geraldine, of Warrensville; a daughter, Betty Rash and husband, Gene, of Lansing; a step son, Randy Hartsoe and wife, Tammy, of Creston; two step daughters, Debbie Jackson, of Myrtle Beach and Vickie Blevins, of Wilmington; two sisters, Belle Greer, of Chilhowie, VA and Ann Kilgore, of Peach Bottom, PA; a brother, Jim Roten, of Peach Bottom, PA; sixteen grandchildren, Bobby Powers of Elkton, MD, Angie Miller of Winston, Wendy Arnold of West Jefferson, Denita Roten of Lansing, Evan Roten, of Lansing, Chris Roten, of Jefferson, Trevor Roten, of New York, Kayla Poe, of Warrensville, Ricky Pruitt of Winston-Salem, Dusty Hartsoe, of Whitetop, VA, Eli Hartsoe, of Creston, Stacey Byrd, of Raleigh, Brandy Phipps of Creston, Daniel Phipps, of Creston, Kirk Wood, of West Jefferson, and Robbie Hart, of Lansing; twenty great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
