Mr. James Ivan Roland, Sr. better known as "Jim" age 68, of Jefferson passed away Sunday night, August 5, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Roland was born in Ashe County on March 31, 1950 to the late Iren Clinton and Pearl McCoy Roland. He was a self-employed welder. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joann McCoy Roland; four brothers, Rex Roland, Earl Roland, Thomas Roland and Ricky Roland. Mr. Roland is survived by two daughters, Patricia Greer, of Jefferson and Mary Jo Roland, of Crumpler; two sons, Joey Roland and wife, Heather, of Jefferson and Jimmy Roland and wife, Kathy, of Glendale Springs; two brothers, Robert Roland, of Jefferson and Billy Roland, of Jefferson; seven sisters, Dorothy Evans, of Union Grove, Ida Taylor, of Mooresville, Irene Greer, of Creston, Leslie Fink, of Jefferson, Betty Shatley, of Crumpler, Geraldine Turner, of West Jefferson and Rosie Turner, of Crumpler; twenty one grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
