Mr. Wert Curtis Barker, age 83, of Jefferson passed away Monday morning, October 22, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Richardson, Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Barker was born on May 28, 1935 to the late Edgar William and Stella Mae Blevins Barker. Wert served in the United States Army. He was self-employed mechanic of Barker's Garage. He enjoyed hunting and gardening. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; he will be missed by all. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Barker and Orlean Barker; a brother, Glenn David Barker. Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Kathleen Brown Barker; two sons, Joel Gwyn Barker, of Jefferson and Willard Ray Barker, and wife, Alice, of Todd; two daughters, Barbara Renee Barker, of Boone and Beverly Marla Barker, of Jefferson; a sister, Zola Barker, of Jefferson; two grandchildren, Kayla Barker and Shelby Barker; one niece also survive. Flowers are appreciated. Pallbearers are as follow: J.E. Blevins, Roger Church, Leroy Blevins, Eddie May, James Johnson, Bobby Johnson and Doug Cox.
