Mrs. Pauline Barker Shatley, age 89, of West Jefferson passed away Saturday afternoon, September 27, 2008 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at the Smethport Baptist Church with Rev. James Sechrest, Rev. Tommy Dollar, Rev. Russell Hart and Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Monday night at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Shatley was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, March 25, 1919 to the late Wynfield Nelson Barker and Ally Wiles Barker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Garfield Shatley and two daughters, Mary Lyall and Patsy Shatley. She is survived by a son, Mike Shatley and wife Shannon of West Jefferson; four daughters, Naomi Gore and husband Tommy of Jefferson, Thelma Miller and husband Jimmy of Winston-Salem, Helen Bare of West Jefferson, Judy Joines and husband Charlie Ray of Creston; one brother, John Roy Barker and wife Susie of Millers Creek; four sisters, Marie Grubb of West Jefferson, Myrtle Halsey of West Jefferson, Louise Severt and husband Johnny of West Jefferson, Virginia Gilley of Forest Hill, Maryland; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
