Mrs. Mattie Jones Cooper, age 89, of Jefferson passed away Saturday morning, January 5, 2019 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sidney Crunk and Rev. Sherry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2019; one hour prior to the funeral. Mrs. Cooper was born in Ashe County on October 5, 1929 to the late Daniel Ruben Jones, Sr and Pet Graham Jones. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading (especially the Bible and daily devotionals), painting and working in her flower garden. She was a member of Blackburn's Chapel United Methodist Church but when she moved to Glendale Springs, she attended Glendale Springs Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. "Bud" Cooper; a son, Danny Cooper; four brothers, Paul Jones, Howard Jones, Barney Jones and Shirley Jones; a sister, Edith Jones. Mrs. Cooper is survived by two sons, Larry Cooper and wife, Pat, of Glendale Springs and Randy Cooper and wife, Debbie, of Lenoir; a daughter, Amy Greer and husband, Bobby, of Boone; two brothers, D.R. Jones and wife, Betty, of West Jefferson and Basil Jones and wife, Joann, of Todd; two sisters, Betty Nell Jones, of Greensboro and Thelma Hardin, of Hickory; two grandchildren, April Laney and husband, Matt, of Glendale Springs and Trey Greer, of Boone; several nieces and nephews also survive.
