Pearl's total acceptance of Earl & me into the community meant a great deal to us newcomers. Her warm smile was an inspiration as, indeed, was her life. She was a very lovable person. I will miss her.

I remember Mrs.Hagel(Pearl) as being such a wonderful mother to Jennifer and her brothers through the eyes of Jennifer as a co-worker and friend.
I know that she is in a much better place.
My prayers are sent to all of her family.
She touched the hearts of anyone that she met, always such a beautiful smile, and a kind word.
God Bless All of You.

The first time I met Pearl, she and a friend had come to check out Appalachian Brian Estates for the winter months. Pearl liked it so much she returned several times before making ABE her permanent home. She was such an independent lady yet found companionship in another resident Ray Gaskill. Their relationship was cut short due to Ray's death.
Pearl never drank coffee. She would fix herself a cup of hot water and drink it while other residents drank coffee.
I feel very honored to have know Pearl Hagel and considered her one of kindest people I have ever known. She loved her family and treated everyone with respect. I even made an ad with a picture of Pearl with another Pearl though she never enjoyed being photographed or video taped. She became very proficient on the WEB TV in fact used it on a daily basis for years.
Yes, Pearl Hagel was a special lady and she will be missed but not forgotten.
Sincerely,
Pat Taylor

Pearl's smile spoke kindness! As a neighbor and friend with whom I could freely share both laughter and tears, I recall her welcoming spirit, her recepies of shephard's pie and Tang "tea",her gift of humor, her optimism, her encouraging words, her game-playing spirit! I remember that she drank hot water, loved to chide Carl about trying to grow grass in the back yard at Charlotte ( it never did), willingly lept into new adventures ( golf course )and always loved her kids and her God. Her poems were dear, like her. I now offer a poem to my departed friend, Pearl:
Upon your moving into a new and glorious space,
I thank you for your abiding grace.
Leaving behind a loving legacy of care;
Children and grandchildren now carry your share,
Of honor, of kindness, of desire to serve.
Rest now, my dear friend, God knows it is well-deserved!
And think of the joy that came with the pain,
And watch over those who yet remain.
Let good memories flood their souls with mirth,
Until they come to you in their own faith and rebirth.
Love, Mary
