Mr. James Wayne Miller, better known as "Wayne" age 72, of Jefferson, the Glendale Springs area, passed away Sunday morning, May 12, 2019 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russell Sheets, Rev. Sonny Thomas and Rev. J.D. Walton officiating. Burial will follow in the George Miller Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Miller was born in Ashe County on August 3, 1946 to the late Garfield and Maxie Black Miller. He was a member of Obids Country Church. For many years he worked in construction working heavy equipment but in the later year of his life, he worked for the Town of Boone in maintenance. Wayne was always a hard worker; he raised cattle and tobacco for most of his life. Enjoyed working with his Dexter tractor. In his spare time, he loved to play Rook and watch the Atlanta Braves play ball. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Barker; a grandson, Jaxon Heath Miller. Mr. Miller is survived by: his wife, Shirley Sheets Miller; two sons, David Miller and wife, Debbie, of Jefferson and Daniel Miller and wife, Lisa, of Jefferson; four brothers, Robert Wade Miller, Junior Wade Miller and Raymond Miller, all of Ellenboro, NC and Earl Miller, of Glendale Springs; a sister, Ella Mae Hodges, of Dana, NC; a granddaughter, Darby Miller; several nieces and nephews also survive.
