Obituary of June Weaver Worth
June Weaver Worth was born in Ashe County on June 4, 1930 to Zeb and Hattie Weaver. She passed at Baptist Hospital on June 2, 2019, two days away from her 89th birthday. She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Cynthia) and Phil (Leslie), and two grandchildren Ellen and Andrew. She was predeceased by a daughter (Patricia Lynn); her husband Will; four brothers, Reeves, Rex, Tom, and Dan; a sister, Kate Boyd. She is also survived by a sister Mary (Carlyle) and a brother Jim (Donna) and by many nieces and nephews.
June grew up in Smethport and attended Jefferson Elementary and Jefferson High School. With a lifelong passion to be a nurse, she attended nursing school at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte and worked as a Registered Nurse in Ashe County's first hospital for several years. In the early 1970's she became Ashe County's first Health Occupations teacher and continued her passion for nursing by teaching high school students the fundamentals of nursing practices and skills in related health fields. She had a tremendous sense of accomplishment as many of her former students attended to her as she progressed through the aging process.
Her nurse's training helped her cope with adult onset diabetes, and she was deliberate and consistent in her own health care with walking and healthy eating. She enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes. She also enjoyed cooking and canning and could be seen at almost every event in which her children and grandchildren participated. She and Will enjoyed following the UNC Tarheels and she continued that interest following his passing in 1993.
June was a woman of faith and enjoyed playing hymns on the piano. She was a devoted member of the Jefferson Methodist Church and also regularly attended the Smethport Methodist Church.
