Mrs. Karen Marie Roush Houck, age 63, of West Jefferson passed away Monday evening, July 1, 2019 at her home from abdominal cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 2:00pm at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Boone with Rev. Bud Russell officiating. Speakers will be Barb Rash and Delora Hodges. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on Saturday, July 6, 2019; two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Houck was born in Weymouth, MA on March 25, 1956 to the late Raymond and Dorothy McAdams Roush. Karen graduated from Boise State University. Later, she worked as an x-ray and phlebotomy technician. Karen was a lover of animals and especially dogs. Most dogs instantly recognized her attention and love. She also loved music. She played clarinet in the Watauga Community Band and bass guitar with the Mount Vernon Baptist Church worship band. Karen had a big heart for elderly people and would often visit them with her friends. Karen's kind and sweet personality drew many people to her. She was always willing to listen more than she talked. She was loved by many for her sweet spirit. Mrs. Houck is survived by: her husband, of 40 years of marriage, Al Houck; two sisters, Diane Sater and husband, Ron, of Boise, Idaho and Linda Stoffel and husband, Mike, of Harmony, PA; twelve nieces and nephews, Adam, Heidi, Dan, Abby, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Eric, Chris, Jeff, Mark, Andrea and Sarah also survive.
