Obituary of Rex Oren Roland

Mr. Rex Oren Roland, age 62, of Crumpler, died Wednesday night, September 16, 2009 at Watauga Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 2:00pm at Welcome Home Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Jones, Rev. Russell Sheets and Rev. Randall Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Mr. Roland was born in Ashe County on Friday, September 5, 1947 to the late Oren Clinton and Pearl McCoy Roland. He was a Truck Driver. He is survived by his wife, Norma Holman Roland; two sons, Donnie Edgell of Phoenix, Arizona and Rex Roland and wife, Kathy, of West Jefferson; three daughters, Amanda Roland of the home, Melissa Contreras of West Jefferson and Star Roland of West Jefferson; two step-sons, Tony Phipps and wife, Lynn, of Lansing and B.J. Phipps of West Jefferson; four brothers, Earl Roland and wife, Mary, of Jefferson, Robert Roland and wife, Virginia, of Jefferson, Billy Roland and wife, Shelia, of Jefferson and Jim Roland and wife, Joann, of Jefferson; seven sisters, Lessie Fink, of Jefferson, Betty Shatley and husband, Jackie, of Jefferson, Ida Taylor and husband, Bruce, of Thomasville, Dorothy Evans of Statesville, Geraldine Turner and husband, Joe, of West Jefferson, Rosie Turner and husband, Wayne, of Jefferson and Irene Greer and husband, Fred, of Warrensville; eighteen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Amanda Roland Trust Fund, c/o AF Bank, PO Box 26, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
