Obituary of James Harvey Payne, Jr.

Mr. James Harvey Payne, Jr. better known as "Jim" age 78, of Advance, formerly of Ashe County passed away Saturday morning, August 17, 2019 at Margate Health and Rehab Center.

Celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11am at Boone Family Funeral Home with Father Steve Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10-11am at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Payne was born in Asheville, NC on January 12, 1941 to the late James Harvey Payne and Winifred Ralston Payne. Jim served in the United States Army. He retired from FedEx Freight, where he worked as a collection manager. Jim enjoyed fishing; he knew every fishing hole in Ashe County. He loved history and any historical events.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Shepherd Payne; a sister, Nan Richards.

Mr. Payne is survived by: his wife, Elaine Graybeal; a son, Jimmy Payne and wife, Amy, of Greensboro; two daughters, Amy McComas and husband, Eddie, of Mooresville and Teresa Reeves and husband, Dave, of Archdale, NC; two step-daughters, Kaye Graybeal, of Greensboro and Elizabeth Stewart, of Greensboro; a sister, Fair Payne, of Jefferson; four grandsons, L.D. Brooks, Drew McComas, Winston Lee Claspill and Connor Payne; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Mae Claspill; several nieces and nephews also survive.
