Obituary of John Wade Stevens

Mr. John Wade Stevens, age 83, of Jefferson passed away Sunday afternoon, August 25, 2019 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 6:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Pugh and Rev. Shane Hopkins officiating. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 1:00pm at Bald Mountain Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00-6:00pm; two hours prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Stevens was born in Ashe County on November 11, 1935 to the late Raleigh and Octavia Greer Stevens. He was a cattle farmer and also worked as a barber at the Jefferson Barber Shop. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time. He was a member at Bald Mountain Baptist Church.

He was preceded by a son, Jerry Stevens; a daughter, Kay Hayworth; Joshua Stevens; a brother, Scott Stevens; five sisters, Blanche Lawrence, Doris (Toonie) Nichols, Juanita Stike, Jean Houck and Sammie Church.

Mr. Stevens is survived by: his wife, Imogene Gentry Stevens; three sons, John Wade Stevens, Jr. and wife, Rita, of Jefferson, Jimmy Stevens, of West Jefferson and Jeffery Stevens, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Karen McMillian, of West Jefferson; a brother, Rhonda Stevens and wife, Edith, of West Jefferson; a sister, Dicia Houck, of West Jefferson; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
