Obituary of Johnnie Gambill Miller

Johnnie Gambill Miller  age  69 of West Jefferson, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Wednesday September 18, 2019 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care Center in Hudson, NC.

 

She was born in Jefferson, NC on June 16, 1950 to Dr, C.E. “John” and Melba Miller.  She was named after her father.  Later in elementary school she started going by “Connie” due to multiple Johnny's in her class to help decrease confusion.

 

Johnnie was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen at Beaver Creek High School.  She loved her high school friends until her last day on earth.  She loved all kinds of animals and had a variety of different kinds as pets during her lifetime.

 

Johnnie graduated from UNC Chapel Hill University  and received a Masters in Psychology from Appalachian State University.  She did post graduate work at the University of Connecticut and also worked as a librarian for the University of Connecticut.  She had worked as a social worker, caregiver and advocate.  She was an artist, photographer, and writer. 

 

Johnnie came back to Ashe County and assisted her father in his medical practice until he retired.

 

Johnnie was pre-deceased by her father, Dr, C.E. “John” Miller She is survived by her mother, Melba Miller and brothers, Chuck & Doug Miller.  She leaves behind aunts, uncles, nephews, a niece and many cousins.

 

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Watauga Medical Center, Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.
