Mrs. Mary Belle Owens Poteet, age 87, of West Jefferson died Tuesday night, October 6, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Poteet was born in Ashe County on Thursday, September 28, 1922 to the late Lonnie Lester and Maude Ellen Blackburn Owens. She worked for Appalachian State University. She is survived by a brother, Gary Owens, of Winnsboro, SC; three sisters, Mabel Johnston, of North Wilkesboro, Mildred Franklin, of Jefferson and Meryl Queen, of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
