Mrs. Nell Raye Bare age 70 passed away October 8, 2009 with her family at her side after a 20-month battle with cancer. Nell was born March 23, 1939 in Ashe County to the late Louise Mae Sturdivant and the late Clyde Raymond Duvall. Nell graduated in 1957 from Beaver Creek High School and enjoyed lifelong friendships with the Class of 57 and with a group she called the Golden Girls. Over the years Nell worked as a teacher's aide at Jefferson Elementary School and was the owner and director of Our World Child Development Center. She was a long-time and active member at West Jefferson United Methodist Church. Her devoted husband of 52 years, Bud Bare, son Kirk Bare, his wife Sheryl, son Michael Bare, his wife Patti, and three grandsons she was so very proud and fondly referred to as "those boys" Nicholas, Jordan, and Cameron Bare survive Nell. The family will receive friends on Saturday October 10 from 7:00 to 9:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home in West Jefferson, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held at West Jefferson United Methodist Church Sunday October 11 at 2:00 pm with a reception immediately following for family and friends celebrating Nell's life and honoring her for the way in which she touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to West Jefferson United Methodist Church.
