28 years ago I was lovingly welcome into the Granger family as an honorary member. I remember my 1st meeting of the entire family was at one of their annual family reunions. My son Damien and I were graciously accepted by all thanks to our beautiful Mommy Debbie. I remember this big scary guy offering me a beer. He said his name was Jerry and yelled over to his wife for introductions. He asked what my story was...after telling him the sad truth of how I came to crash upon the Granger family he and Cherie welcomed me and my son with open arms and said if we ever needed anything let him know. I didn't see Jerry and his family much especially after their move but I always remembered him as being sincere in offering his help to me and my son all those years ago. In sad circumstances this past July I had the pleasure of meeting up with Cherie and Jerry again. I am very grateful for those brief moments of reconnection. I found Jerry still oh so charming, silly but most of all sincere. He boasted on and on about his beautiful granddaughter and how perfect she was and how much he loved her. I watched how much love he had for his beautiful Cherie and thought wow they have been together all these years and his eyes still light up with love for her. When we said our goodbyes he leaned in and said "remember if you need me to take care of anything you know where to find me". Jerry will always hold a place in my heart for his genuine sincere great big heart.
