Mr. James Allen Widner, better known as "Allen" age 61, of West Jefferson passed away Saturday night, April 4, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Widner was born in Ashe County on January 7, 1959 to the late Lamuel and Delray Mahaffey Widner. He worked in construction for over 45 year starting with Vannoy's Construction at age 16. Later he and his brothers started their own construction company. Allen enjoyed gardening and watching college basketball, especially the "Tarheels". He was an outgoing person and could talk to anyone. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Wallace. He is survived by: a son Brandon Widner, of Asheville; a daughter, Allison Widner, of Asheville; his significant other, Shirlene Widner, of West Jefferson; two brothers, Donald Widner (Linda) of West Jefferson and Roger Widner (Nieta) of Jefferson; five sisters, Louise Testerman (James) of Newton, Debbie Dancy (Johnny) of West Jefferson, Linda Kilby of Wilkesboro, Patsy Cox of Creston and Rita Jordan (Jerry) of Jefferson; his special dog, Jackie; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
