Mr. Donald Thomas Sheets, age 83, of West Jefferson, NC, passed away Wednesday evening at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Sheets was born in Ashe County on October 29, 1936 to Walter and Nettie Ray Burkett Sheets. He was a farmer most of his working career. Donald is survived by: his wife Shirley Wood; a step-son, Danny Houck of Purlear, NC; two step- daughters, Diana Houck of North Wilkesboro, NC and Dawne Houck of Lexington, SC; two brothers, Douglas Sheets and Frank Sheets both of Jefferson, NC; three sisters, Willeen Fortner of Jefferson, Marguerite Bare of New London, PA and Beverly Waddell of West Jefferson,NC; two step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings, the family will be holding private services. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to a charity of the donors' choice.
