Obituary of Charles Robert Mang
Charles Robert Mang was born December 17, 1932 in Oceanside NY. He was the youngest son of William J. Mang Sr. and Eva Germann Mang and the younger brother to the late William J. Mang Jr. He felt that "Charles" was too uptight and formal and was known by his friends and family as "Chuck." Later in life he was known as "Boppy" in lieu of the dreaded title "Gramps." As a young man he dreamed of being a history teacher but instead worked as a mechanic after serving in the Navy during the Korean War. He also held a job as a limo driver and a security guard but his passion for cars led him to be a mechanic for most of his life.
Anyone who knew him remembers his humor, patience, generosity and talent for sharing stories. He loved reading (as long as it was non-fiction), planes, trains, animals, muscle cars and drag racing. He loved animals from an early age and his first pet was a Jack Russell Terrier named Trixie. He had an abiding love for pasta and Italian food, especially spaghetti and meatballs. He had a dry sense of humor and would often clarify "That's just my sarcasm, that's my sarcastic laugh. I don't mean that." He loved timepieces and was never without a watch and several clocks. He was always early and if he was on time, he was late.
Some would describe good people as being a ray of sunshine or lighting up a room. Chuck was a light in this world but he was humble and quiet and his presence while warm and joyful was more akin to that of a steady glowing fire. He liked simplicity and didn't think he was better than anyone else but he left a lasting impression on those who knew his kindness and spirit. He was loved dearly and will be missed by many people.
He died at 87 years old in Jefferson NC on December 11 2020 after contracting Covid-19. It is too late to protect him but it is not too late to protect others so please be careful and wear a mask.
