Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Barker Halsey, better known as "Topsy" age 95, of Jefferson passed away Tuesday evening, December 29, 2020 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. A private graveside for the family only will be held at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Halsey was born in Ashe County on November 13, 1925 to the late Winfield and Allie Wiles Barker. She retired from Sara Lee Knit Products after work 30 years. She was a member of Smethport United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by seven sisters, Ella Barker Sturgill, Grace Barker Stone, Carola Barker Gilley, Hazel Barker Hensley, Pauline Barker Shatley, Marie Barker Grubb and Louise Barker Severt; three brothers, Glenn Barker, John Roy Barker and Willie Worth Barker; a son-in-law, Jimmie Young. Mrs. Halsey is survived by: a son, Steve Halsey and wife, Emmy, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Linda Young, of Grassy Creek; five grandchildren, Michelle Halsey Dix, Tara Young Miller, Cari Halsey, Todd Young and Ally Halsey; seven great-grandchildren; Taylon, Airis, Tiffany, Savannah, Hunter, Sabrina and Ariel; two great, great-grandchildren, Lainey and Beckley; several nieces and nephews also survive.
