Obituary of Ilene Weaver
Berniece Ilene Weaver passed away on January 2, 2021 at Maine Medical Center in Portland Maine after a brief illness. Ilene was born on September 16, 1939 in Ashe County, North Carolina to Kellon & Faye Dixon.
Ilene moved to Pennsylvania to find work when she was very young. She and her husband, Mark, and the children made this their home until his passing in 2012. At the time, Ilene moved to Maine to be with her daughter and grandchildren. Although she only lived in Maine a few years, she gained the hearts of everyone who met her.
Ilene will be remembered by all for her warm heart and kindness. Her hospitality and generosity shown to others was unmistakable. She lovingly opened her home to family members or friends in need of a place to spend a few nights or even several months, and many, many foster children. Ilene would see a homeless person on the street and stop to give them money for food. Her heart was open to everyone. Countless times she would invite visiting ministers and their families to her home for dinner regardless of how many she had to feed. She had a unique way to always care for others.
Ilene is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean and son-in-law Sam Fratoni of South Portland, Maine; two grandsons who were the light of her life; Matthew Snyder of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Benjamin Fratoni of South Portland, Maine.
Also surviving are her siblings, Willard Dixon of White Top, VA; Juanita (Geter) Blevins of West Jefferson, NC; Betty (Bill) Eldreth of Lansing, NC; Charles (Carol) Dixon of Denton, NC; Fredia (Frank) Jeandell of Landenberg, PA; Patricia Freeman of Thomasville, NC; BillyJo (Ann) Dixon of Warrensville, NC; Hilda (Dean) Richardson of Archdale, NC; John (Valida) Dixon of Winston Salem, NC; Gerald Dixon of Thomasville, NC; and several nieces & nephews. In addition, a special young lady, Ashley Ramos, and her two children of Pennsylvania.
Ilene was predeceased by her husband, Joel Mark Weaver; daughter, Dina Joann Weaver; Son, Richard Mark Weaver; Grand Mother, Lockey Finley (with whom she grew up); Mother, Faye Dixon; and sister, Anita Dixon; Father, Kellon Dixon of VA.
