Obituary of Linda Lilly VanHoy
Mrs. Linda Lilly Campbell VanHoy, age 81, of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, the Grassy Creek Community passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at her home following a two-year courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on April 5, 1939 in Watauga County to William Harrison and Eudora Mae Combs Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Ralph (Ann) Campbell, Clip (Nell) Campbell, Luther (Janelle) Campbell, Dare (Nile) Eller, Ned (Catherine) Campbell, Mattie (Roger) Waddell, Edward Campbell, Imogene McDuffee, and Jack (Eva) Campbell. She was a 1957 graduate of Virginia Carolina High School. She a member of the Mount Jefferson Baptist Church in Jefferson, NC. She was married to Robert Russell VanHoy on September 14, 1957. She will be remembered as a faithful Christian, a loyal wife, a dedicated mother, and as having lived her life adhering to a creed of simplicity and honesty. Her greatest joy was spending time in the kitchen preparing meals for her family and friends. She was well known for her cookies, cakes, and pies.
In addition to her husband, Robert R. VanHoy of the home, she is survived by her children, Robert Michael and Julie VanHoy of Maryland, Karen Denise and John C. Spencer of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, Dwight David and Michelle VanHoy of Jefferson, North Carolina, Linda Louise VanHoy of Independence, Virginia, Carol Lynn and William (Corky) Sheets of Marion, Virginia and Julian Russell (Rusty) and Ashley VanHoy of Jefferson, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Melissa Spencer, Bobby VanHoy, Patrick Spencer, Jennifer VanHoy Williams, Grayson Sheets, Campbell Sheets, Caitlyn VanHoy and Ameila VanHoy; six great grandchildren also survive; one brother-in-law, Jerry McDuffee of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and sister-in-law, Patricia Campbell of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and her life-long best friend, Sandra Wood Bowers of Mouth of Wilson, also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, February 8 at 1:00 PM at the Grassy Creek Cemetery by Rev. Keith Casey. Burial will follow in Grassy Creek Community Cemetery.
