Obituary of Eunice Blevins

Eunice Elizabeth Creech Blevins of Hopewell, Virginia, died peacefully at home on May 6, 2021 at the age of 93. Born on September 24, 1927 in Johnston County, NC, to John Raymond and Mollie Lewis Creech, Mrs. Blevins attended Corinth-Holder High School and Hardbarger Junior College Business School. While working in the Agricultural Engineering Department of NC State University, she met Zane Blevins, whom she married on May 10, 1952. The newlyweds spent two years in Indiana before moving to Columbia, SC, where all four of their children were born. Transfers related to Mr. Blevins’s employment led to moves to Omaha, Nebraska in 1963, then to Beaverton, Oregon in 1968, Gillette, New Jersey in 1970, and Hopewell, Virginia in 1972. After being invited by a friend to attend a real estate course, Mrs. Blevins became a real estate agent, eventually establishing her own business in 1987 – Blevins Realty, Inc. The business was highly successful and Mrs. Blevins won numerous regional top sales awards. Wherever she lived, Mrs. Blevins was active in church and community service. She was a strong proponent of mission efforts, both overseas and local. She was a particularly strong supporter of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Her compassion was evident in her involvement with the Benevolence Fund of First Baptist Church, Hopewell, and in her daily work as a real estate agent. She was never “just” a real estate agent. She regarded her work as her ministry, involving herself in helping her clients in myriad ways. Mrs. Blevins is survived by her sister, Velma Wright and husband Charles of Raleigh, sons Kent (Gail Peace) of Boiling Springs, NC, Alan (Wanda) of Blythewood, SC, and Lyle (Ana Maria) of Goose Creek, SC, and daughter Lucy (Tim) Jordan of Raleigh, NC, fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Zane Blevins, her brothers Vick Creech and Henry Creech, and her sisters Lucy Johnson, Sudie Creech, Maybelle Creech, and Annie Lee Creech. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 401 N 2nd Ave, Hopewell, VA at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 11. Graveside services will occur at 11 am on Thursday, May 13 at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, 407 Blue Ridge Church Road, West Jefferson, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eunice Ministry (benevolence fund named in honor of Mrs. Blevins) c/o Covington Baptist Church, PO Box 687, 280 W. Riverside St. Covington, VA 24426 or to the Benevolence Fund of First Baptist Church, 401 N 2nd Ave, Hopewell, VA 23860.
