Cheryl was such a wonderful friend. I first met her as my boss at the Literacy League when it was located at the library. As a boss, she was willing to take a chance on a girl fresh from high school, naive to the world, and trained me when she probably should have hired someone with at least a little experience! That's just who she was, a caring person willing to take a chance (and a challenge) based on her instincts. I owe so much to Cheryl and family. She remained a friend over the past 15 years since we first met, and had faith in me when I didn't. When she heard of my own hard times she never failed to be there for me. My heart aches for Charles, David, Brooke and the rest of the family. My prayers are with you and I am so sorry for the loss of your wife and mother, and my sweet, dear friend.

Cheryl was always such a good "work buddy", and ready to do anything for anyone. I regret having lost touch with Cheryl since she left the work force.
Love and Light to the family. Cheryl was a "mama bear" when it came to her children. Cherish memories.

My sense of loss is so overwhelming -- I can only feel a glimmer of what Cheryl's family must be going through. She was my link to Ashe County during the months I was away. We emailed back and forth frequently and one of the last messages I received from her was a request to send cards to an unknown child dying of cancer. This epitomizes Cheryl's kind and giving nature -- always concerned with others and wanting to help. God has a special angel up there now --- I will sorely miss her.

Charles and Family,
Sorry to learn of Cheryl's passing. We never had opportunity to get to know you as a couple before leaving Ashe,
but I can still recall my parents (Brice and Mae) speaking fondly of Cheryl and yourself. Especially, how accommodating and will to help those in need. Our thoughts are with you. Clay & Peggy Denny

I first met Cheryl through a program called MOPS at our church. She was so wonderful and our paths continued to cross throughout the past 10 years and each time she was doing soemthing to help children & families! I know her family meant so much to her as she always mentioned you. May you feel God holding you in his arms during this difficult time. As I put a book in the children's Christmas Project box this year I will be placing it there in her memory!

I knew Cheryl best from her days with the book drive for the Children's Christmas Project. Years ago, she would call with information for the paper, and often I would go see her to talk about the book collections. In this and other stories we've done together over the years, I so much enjoyed Cheryl's calm demeanor and kind heart. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and by so many who may not have known her but benefited from her volunteer efforts.

Dear Charles, Brooke, David, and Family:
Amelia and I were saddened by the death of Cheryl. We were hoping and praying for her complete recovery from the kidney transplant. We know this complication with the pancreas was unexpected.
Cheryl was, as you know, a person who did so much for others. She was always ready to volunteer here at church: UMW Bazaar, Nursery Coordinator, Food Pantry, Free Medical Clinic, Ashe Co. Children's Christmas Project, and many, many other community causes.
She will be missed.
We hold you in our prayers.

Charles, Brooke, Brandon, David and Boys,
I can't express to you my sadness for your family, yet the comfort in knowing Cheryl is okay. It is the promise that Christ made to us. Her gentle voice and spirit will continue through you and all that knew her. Each spring we will be reminded of her as the daffodils bloom along the creek bank that once were in her flower bed, and with the blooms of the many other flowers she shared with me. We will miss her.
Love, Jane

Cheryl was a wonderful friend and was a delight to run into. She always had a beautiful smile. She loved and cared about children. We worked with her on Arts Council and Cub Scouts projects and programs at Mt Jefferson Child Dev Center.
David will remember when we duck taped a kite together at Ashe Park when he was in scouts. We all had lots of fun that day.
Cheryl will be missed by all who knew her.
With love,
Becky and Mickeal Goss

A life lived is remembered by its works and the fruits it produces: Cheryl gave adults the ability to read, the suffering hope, the youth education, the poor gifts, the hungry food, on and on; She exemplified a light in darkness whose intents were unselfish and works produced fruits. Blessed are those that knew her and benefited from her gifts.
