Obituary of Lavaun Church

Mrs. Lavaun Cheek Church, age 93, of Jefferson passed away Monday afternoon, September 28, 2008 at the Margate Health & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, 2008 at 12:00 P.M. at the Old Fields Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Miller and Rev. Paul Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 P.M. Friday, two hours prior to the funeral service at the church. Mrs. Church was born in Ashe County on October 21, 1914 to the late Andrew Marshall Cheek and Celia Kiter Blackburn Cheek. She was a Homemaker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willard Adam Church; a daughter, Leuna Absher; three brothers, Charles Cheek, Marion Cheek and Edmond Cheek; three sisters, Louella Church, Jean Hollar and Ethel Shirley. She is survived by, two sons, Kenneth Church of Autryville, NC and Alton Church of Mebane, NC; four daughters, Kathy Barlow, of West Jefferson, Evelyn Cooper of Fleetwood, Anna Harris of Mebane, NC and Vivian Pennington of Mebane, NC; a brother, AM Cheek of Fleetwood; two sisters, Georgia Rader of Winterpark, FL and Jewel Walker of York, PA; twenty-six grandchildren, several Great-Grandchildren; several Great-Great-Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family respectfully asks no food please! Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Ashe High Country Health Care Hospice, PO Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640 or to Ashe Services for Aging, the Nutrition Program, PO Box 9, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
