Obituary of Martha Eleanor Scott
Martha Eleanor McNeill Scott, age 74, of Columbia, Missouri, formerly of Ashe County, died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at her residence.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2009 at 2:30 P.M. at the McNeil Family Cemetery with Rev. A.B. Weaver officiating.
The family will receive friends at 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Scott was born in Ashe County on September 29, 1935 to the late Peter Thurman and Martha Ellen Fletcher McNeill. She was a devout, energetic and inspirational member of the community and her church, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Her church family brought her so much joy and purpose. She committed hours each Sunday as a greeter, an usher and was an active member of the Church Choir, the Resurrection Choir and the Social Concerns Committee. Martha was also the hospitality director and the president of the Women of Lourdes and was very proud to have recently been given the special title of "Honorary Honor Guard" for the Knights of Columbus. She loved life to the fullest. Her tireless enthusiasm, infectious smile and laugh were contagious and brought joy to all who were around her. She was known as Peaches by many, especially William Busch but to her family she was known as Motts, Guccum, GoGo, and the Energizer Bunny. She will forever remain in the hearts to those who knew her. This "social butterfly" never knew a stranger and we are all so blessed to have known her. Her compassionate heart touched many.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond Stiers and Lamont "Scotty" Scott; four brothers, four sisters and a grandson.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff Scott, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and John Scott and wife, Michelle, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; a step-son, Steve Stiers and wife, Barb, of Gilbert, Arizona; a daughter, Angela Allen and husband, Keith, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; a brother, Peter T. McNeill, of Flemingsburg, KY; a sister, Ann Garwood of Wilkesboro, NC; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.
