I having been remembering all of the good times I had while working for him in the Lansing office. He was always my Dr. when I was a little girl and was always so good to me. (he never gave me those ole yucky shots). I'm sure the days ahead will be very hard for each of you but remember God is there for you and will help you.

Dr. Kurtz was the most wonderful man! He was so talented and so kind. He always encoraged me to become a doctor although I chose to be a mommy instead. He gave the best hugs on a Sunday morning and I was looking forward to more of those since we moved back to Ashe. God gave us all a great gift by allowing us to know Dr. Kurtz. We will miss his wonderful voice and his many musical talents (the organ was my favorite) but what a joy the Angels of heaven have now that he is walking those wonderful streets where we all long to be. We loved Dr. Kurtz and we love his family. May our God give you peace and may your souls feel confort knowing we all love you and are praying for you.

Dear Family:
I am so sorry to learn of the passing of a wonderful caring person. Dr. Kurtz was my doctor for many years. I shall never forget him delivering my son and the wonderful pray he had with me. He never forgot that day and we often talked about it when our paths crossed.
While I was working with Hospice he became one of our volunteers and was always there for advice when we had a concern or need for one of our patients or just help with a project.
I read about the trip that he, his wife and their four children enjoyed together. I know how much that meant to him and Mrs. Kurtz.
God bless all of you.

To The Kurtz Family.
All my thoughts and prayers are with at this time, but the memories you have to fall back on reflect what such a great family man, Doctor, community leader, and Man of God he was.
I sang with Dr. Kurtz in the Mountain Overtones and High Country Men's Chorus, did he love to sing as you know. As we do in most Barbershop sessions each member chooses a song to sing. In his last session he picked "There Something About That Name"
Dr. Kurtz should me a role model for all of us to do something positive with our lives and live life to the fullest, no matter what age you are.
He will missed, but his legacy will last forever. May God Bless and Keep Him.

My, how much I'm going to miss this very good friend, neighbor, fellow board member, and Scrabble competitor. His skill at this word game was phenomenal, and I learned so much from his strategic playing that I, finally, after many tries, was able to beat him a time or two. In both the game of Scrabble and the game of Life, Elam seemed to be keenly aware of possibilties and had the patience and perseverance to realize many of these possiblities - a valuable lesson indeed.
I loved Elam's insightful sense of humor and his gracious and unjudging acceptance of people just they are.
The fullness and richness of his life until the very last moment was an inspiration to all, and the many lives he touched in so many ways would be unfathomable.

I did not know Elam well, but what I remember is his singing, of course, at the church and at the MCC Sale. Standing stick-straight, his arm pumping the beat, his chest was out - he was the picture of a man proclaiming his faith. And what I also remember about him is the look in his daughter's eyes when they speak of him. It sets a goal for us all and I am glad I will still get to hear more about him.
I am sorry that I cannot join you and I pray peace to you all.

There are no words to express what Dr. Elam meant to me and my family. I have known Dr. Elam and his family since I was born. Dr. Elam and I use to laugh about different things. He was so witty. When he delivered me he gave me a pop on the backside as they use to do to make the babies cry and get a good breath. We had fun telling that he gave me my very first spanking. He was my doctor growing up and then my ride to Vacation Bible School at Medoview Menonite Church. Along with my sisters, we would sing all the way to church. I remember a Sunrise Service and I stood beside Elam as we sang Oh Happy Day. I will never forget that. I was very young and he seemed to be the biggest man I had ever seen, but he was the most kind and gentle man I had ever known! Later in years I was blessed to get to work with him at High Country Family Medicine. He would take me to lunch on his motorcycle which was equipped with headphones so that I could listen to music. It was great!! He was always so loving and kind to all of his patients and he always thanked me for a job well done at the end of the day. He was the best!! He and I stopped working at the same time. I left work to raise my children and he left to continue to bless others with his services. I will really miss seeing him and hearing him at our 5th Sunday Singings. He will never be forgotten and he will be missed a great deal! There are so many memories I have that I could write all day and not get them all written down. God has blessed me to have known Dr. Elam and his family. Orpha, Karen, Mike, Becky and Kevin I pray that God will give you peace and comfort. Knowing that your dad is playing his autoharp and singing in the best choir ever should give you a peace that passes all understanding. He was amazing and loved by "ALL" who knew him. God bless You Everyone!!....................

I will always remember Dr. Kurtz as being a very caring and kind man. He always had a smile on his face. He would ask about my Mom and Dad, how they were doing. He always seemed concerned even when he decided to retire and enjoy life. One thing in particular stands out in my mind about Dr. Kurtz, when we had to beep him to give a message about his patients, he was VERY prompt in calling back and always with "enthusiasm"...he really and truly "wanted" to know that his patients called and he never one time sounded tired or acted like he needed time for himself...he was always ready to give himself to anyone needing his services. He was always good to me and I will truly miss his smiling face, but he is now smiling and singing with the angels and one day I can't wait to hear his beautiful voice again. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, all of the family. You are truly in my thoughts and prayers and he will surely be missed by all who had the privelege of knowing him.

Dr Kurtz was my grandmother's doctor for many years up until her death, he always called her granny(Venie) and she loved her doctor, she put faith in him as she put faith in God. I brought her back home from Baptist hospital, with Dr Kurtz's help. They had told me she was going to die, was surprised that she had lived through first shift..So I called Dr Kurtz to help me bring her home to die. After she got back home and she saw Dr Kurtz she said "my little doctor", and was a miracle..She improved each day.She lived another 5 years, making gardens that she loved etc.....I also worked with him at Emerald Health Care/Ashe Living Center where he took care of his patients. He always had a smile on his face and was always willing to listen and help out....He will me missed and never forgotten.
