Dear Nancy and Family:
Amelia and I cherish our relationship with Thomas, you and your family. We will miss Thomas as both a dear friend, loyal church member and true disciple of Jesus our Lord.
We thank God that his earthly faith journey is completed and he has now a new spiritual body that will never suffer illness or infirmity again.
We send our love and prayers to you and know that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit will continue to strengthen and sustain you in this time of transition.
Remember that there are some things that do not die: Faith, Hope, and Love.
Your loved one is safe in the everlasting arms of our Risen Lord.
In His Love,
Pastor Keith and Amelia

Cecil & Maxine Shatley posted a condolence
Nancy and all the family,
Cecil and I are truly sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Johnston was a man of character that is to be admired by all. I will never forget the Ashe Central High School Athletic Banquet where Thomas named Cecil, "Pea Head" after some famous coach. That name stuck with Cecil for years. Sometime, I forget myself and call him Pea Head. Thomas was always kind to Cecil and our whole family. Thomas will be missed by a lot of people but mostly by you. You spent nearly 62 years together and that is so remarkable in this day and time.
We will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
Cecil and Maxine Shatley

Tom Johnston was a true gentleman, a man of impeccable integrity, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was always thoughtful, kind and generous.
I was personally privileged to be employed by Mr. Ira T. and/or Tom for more than a decade, but while I was an employee I was treated more like family.
Nancy, you and Tom were an amazing couple, and I will always remember the Johnstons as a wonderful family. You and Tom were always there for me. I loved visiting with you, and I have such good memories of your hospitality.
When I think of you, Nancy, I can find you described in Proverbs 31. It's hard to believe 32 years have passed since I moved away, and I didn't see you as often as I wished. I was hoping to see you and Tom in August, and I am so sad to learn of his passing.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May wonderful memories bring you comfort, and may the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
Much love,
Kathy
