Obituary of James Herman Patrick

Mr. James Herman Patrick, Jr., age 48, of the Flatwoods Road in Creston passed away Monday night, June 21, 2010 at Watauga Medical Center after fighting a courageous battle against cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11:00 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Spencer Roark, Rev. Danny Farmer, Rev. Mike Farmer and Rev. Cliff Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Patrick-Cox Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Patrick was born in Ashe County on Monday, May 14, 1962 to Herman and Mattie Rash Patrick. James helped build many homes throughout Ashe and Johnson County over the last 30 years. He loved being outdoors, farming, hunting, wood working, camping and spending time with his family. He was the superintendent of the Laurel Springs Church. He was also a member of the Pond Mountain Fire Department, where he was elected as Firefighter of the Year in 2008. He was well loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. James is survived by his wife of 26 years, Penny Cox Patrick; a son, Jimmy Patrick, of the home; a daughter, Amy Patrick, of the home; his parents, Herman and Mattie Patrick, of Creston; his maternal grandmother, Vinnie Rash, of Creston; a brother, Kenneth Patrick and wife, Teresa, of West Jefferson, the Buffalo Community; two sisters, Evelyn Brewer and husband, Cliff, of Creston and Renae Payne and husband, Mike, of Mountain City, TN; his in-laws who loved him as their own, Lloyd and Lois Cox, Ann and Danny Farmer, Jane and Ralph Oliver, all of Creston; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or a monetary donation to help pay for the funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated. Special thanks goes out to all the doctors and nurse of the Seby B. Jones Cancer Center in Boone, especially to Gail Redwine, RN for her special care and going beyond the call of duty. The family will be meeting at the homeplace at 617 North Flatwoods road in Creston.
