Mrs. Jennie Elizabeth Yirka, age 100, of Lansing, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010 at Segraves Nursing Care Center in Jefferson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Joseph Dinh officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Yirka was born on Sunday, September 5, 1909 in Washington, D.C. to the late Elmer E. and Blanche Scolick Grady. Jennie was an avid reader. She was a soft spoken and gentle person. She is preceded in death by a son, James Yirka, and a daughter, Mary Striffler. Mrs. Yirka is survived by a son, Mark Yirka and wife Libby, of the Raleigh area; a daughter, Nancy Grimaldi and husband Francis of Lansing; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren also survive.
