Obituary of Reo George Miller

Mr. Reo George Miller, age 93, of West Jefferson, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 29, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife , Clara Miller; a son, Bill Miller and wife Gael, of Ocracoke, NC; a daughter, Jane Banks and husband, John, of West Jefferson; a brother, Wheeling Miller, of Laurel Springs; three sisters, Peggy Woody, of Laurel Springs, Maxine McNeil, of Jefferson and Elma Pinnix of Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Jeannine, Carla, Kristy, Kimberly, Karen, Shawn, Angelia, Allison and Carrie; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Darius and Dottie Manila Bare Miller; a daughter, Ann Miller; a brother, Eugene Miller, Jr. and a sister, Minnie Miller. Mr. Miller began his watch repair business in 1939. In 1955, he built Miller's Jewelry Store in West Jefferson with his wife. When he retired in 2005, his store was the oldest business in the town still operated by the original owners. When he wasn't repairing jewelry and watches, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting, especially for turkeys. He also loved restoring old fiddles. Mr. Miller was an Army veteran of WWII, a Rotarian and a member of the Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He proudly served on the Board of Directors of Ashe Federal Savings and Loan for many years and was a charter member of the West Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 3rd at 2:00 pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Billie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Peak Creek Cemetery in Laurel Springs. The body will lie in state from 12:00-2:00pm, two hours prior to the funeral service. The family extends heart-felt thanks to Mr. Miller's dedicated caregivers and to the members of the Ashe County Hospice. They invite Mr. Miller's extended family and friends to the Ashe Services for Aging Center at 4:00 to share food and fellowship following the burial.
