Mrs. Irene Evelyn Sanders Jones, age 93, of Jefferson passed away on Monday night, August 9, 2010 at Segraves Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 3:00pm at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive from 1:00-3:00pm on Thursday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Jones was born in Ashe County on Monday, August 28, 1916 to the late Albert and Sally Dixon Sanders. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her good cooking and her wonderful sense of humor. She loved to be a jokester. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul Jones; a son, Christopher Burkett Jones; four sisters, Dora Witherspoon, Grace Sanders, Fannie McMillan and Stella Shatley; a brother, Dayne Sanders. Mrs. Jones is survived by a daughter, Sally Taylor, of Jefferson; two granddaughters, Lisa Taylor, of Winston-Salem and Teresa Hughes and husband Craig, of Jefferson; three great-grandchildren, Callie Hughes, Nian Hughes and Maran Taylor; several nieces and nephews also survive.
