Obituary of Charles Clayborn Edwards

Mr. Charles Clayborn Edwards, age 88, of West Jefferson passed away Monday afternoon, September 6, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 2pm at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen Peeler officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Edwards was born in Ashe County on Monday, February 27, 1922 to the late G.W. (Win) and Mildred Greer Edwards. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a partner in L & E Lumber. He also served as a Director on the Board of Blue Ridge Electric, for 39 years. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nina Kathleen Hartzog Edwards; a daughter, Barbara Edwards; two brothers, George Edwards and Butler Edwards; a sister, Betsy Edwards Reavis. He is survived by a son, Charles Edwards, Jr. and wife, Judy, of South Boston, Virginia; two brothers, John Edwards and wife, Nancy, of West Jefferson and Kinny Edwards, of West Jefferson; a sister-in-law, Norma Yates, of Fleetwood; two grandsons Reed Edwards and wife, Leigh, of South Boston, VA and Charles (Chad) Edwards, III, of Charlotte; a great-granddaughter, Maelyn Edwards, of South Boston, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Bethany United Methodist Church, 495 Hwy. 194 South, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
