Obituary of Dwayne Bruce Zimmer
Rev. Dwayne Bruce Zimmer, Sr. age 86, of Crumpler died Monday evening, November 3, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 6, at 10:00 am at Friendship Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis Love officiating. A second memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, at 1:30 pm at Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville, TN.
Rev. Zimmer was born in Tabor, Iowa, on Wednesday, July 5, 1922 to the late Roy Elwin Zimmer and Edyth Pearl Stacy Zimmer. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a retired Southern Baptist minister, having served twelve churches in eight states and was minister of education at Woodmont Baptist Church from 1971 till 1992.
He was preceded in death by brothers Elwin W. Zimmer and Stacy L. Zimmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sunshine "Sunny" Baxter Zimmer; three sons, Steven L. Zimmer and wife, Debbie W., of New Orleans, LA, J. Kevin Zimmer and wife, Karen, of Elk River, MN and D. Bruce Zimmer, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Nashville, TN; two daughters, Cheryl D. Shore and husband, Gary, of Midland, NC and Lori J. Blackburn and husband, Keith, of Oak Ridge, NC; ten grandchildren, Jacob L. Zimmer, of Louisville, KY, Brian S. Shore, of Lumberton, NC, Jessica D. Shore, of Charlotte, NC, Michael G. Zimmer, of Madisonville, KY, Janice J. Blackburn, of Boone, NC, Tyler A. Zimmer, of Akron, Ohio, Clayton E. Zimmer and Christopher D. Zimmer, both of Nashville, TN, Spencer A. Zimmer, of Elk River, MN and Alyssa R. Blackburn, of Oak Ridge, NC; a great-grandson, Brayden L. Zimmer, of Madisonville, KY also survive.
