Obituary of Clyde Edmondson

Millard "Clyde" Edmondson, 76, passed away Friday morning, September 24, 2010, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte surrounded by his family. Born Tuesday, December 19, 1933 in Ashe County, to Mid and Jessie Roland Edmondson, Clyde was the first of five children. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Appalachian State University, Ohio State University, East Tennessee State University and graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a degree in electrical engineering. Clyde was employed with General Electric as an engineer until he returned home to Ashe County to own and operate Knox Knitting Company. Post-retirement Clyde embarked upon a third career as a real estate agent working first with Dogwood Realty followed by Century 21. During his life he was also a tree farmer, a nursery grower and served as an Ashe County Commissioner. Clyde is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Knox Edmondson, and their children, Robert and wife Ann, of Raleigh, Richard and companion Robin, of Glendale Springs and Kara, of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Riley, Lauren, Will and Elise; and three sisters, Eloise Price, of Warrensville, Carolyn Colvard, of West Jefferson and Joy Williams of Goode, VA. Clyde was predeceased by his brother, Larry Edmondson. He leaves behind a community of friends to whom he was always available and willing to help living out his belief that charity truly begins at home. The family will receive friends at Boone Family Funeral Home on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow in the Chapel beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Rickey Mitchell and Dr. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
