Mrs. Shirley Irene Emerson Carpenter, age 65, of Lansing, passed away Thursday morning, December 2, 2010 at NC Baptist Hospital. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Carpenter Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00-2:00pm, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Ashe County on Sunday, July 8, 1945 to the late Joe and Elsie Stella Osborne Emerson. She was a Homemaker. She is survived by her husband , Allen Carpenter; a son, David Carpenter, of Lansing; a daughter, Tammy Carpenter, of Wilkesboro; two brothers, Brian Emerson, of Rugby, VA and Jerry Emerson, of Sugar Grove, VA; five sisters, Iva Ruth Barker, of Bel Air, Maryland, Kay Bundy, of Lansing, Sandy McNeill, of Lansing, Madge Sawyer, of Warrensville and Barbara Jean Testerman of Lynchburg, VA; a granddaughter, Heather Hoosier; two great-grandsons, Damion Pennington and Devon Pennington; several nieces and nephews also survive.
