Dear Jeff, Mark, JJ and family:
Amelia and I extend our Christian sympathy and love to all of you at the death of Nancy. She was a beautiful woman of God. From our first days in Jefferson Nancy reached out to us as a neighbor, friend and member of the church. We were always warmly welcomed and great hospitality shown to us. There are numerous stories of her leadership and involvement in the church and community. We always admired her devotion to Thomas and you as family. She was a great role model for us all. She bravely faced her declining health and stayed active and interested in other people and rejoiced in their lives. We pray the Holy Spirit surround all of you with Resurrection hope.
Blessings,
Dr.Keith and Amelia Franklin

Nancy was truly a blessing to all who knew her. We never knew her to be anything but kind and thoughtful. Just a few weeks ago, she called us to ask how Courtney was doing at college. I was truly blessed, knowing how sick Nancy was and had been, that she was thinking about our daughter and took the time to reach out. God bless you all. You were lucky to have been loved by her.

Our deepest sympathy for your loss. Nancy was such an inspiration for all that knew her. Her work with the Heart Association and other projects made many things possible for the people in Ashe. She can certainly go before God and say, "I used everything you gave me in service to my fellow human beings." May God continue to light your ways through this sad time with the knowledge that Nancy's memories will continue to live through you and yours for many generations to come.

Dear Family,
What a true blessing it was for me to get to know your mother, I'm so sorry to hear of her passing she was one of the most beautiful, kind, sweet, and sincere persons that I ever knew. She truly had a heart of gold, when she ask me some twenty years ago to help her with the Heart Association I was very honored to be able to participate in it with her. I never knew that helping someone else could be that rewarding and satisfying at the same time. I truly enjoyed working with her all those years, She was a true inspiration to all that have a desire to help others. I learned a lot about kindness, generosity, and caring from her. She and Tom were two very wonderful people and will be remembered for many years to come. Anytime that I ever hear anything about Heart Association I will always think of Nancy, if there was ever a Queen of Hearts in Ashe County then Nancy would certainly hold that honor hands down. She will always be the Queen of Hearts to me. I will always miss and love her very much. What a woderful example she set for us to follow. May God Bless You All.
Sincerely,
Johnny Noblett & Famiy

It brings us great sorrow and happiness at the same time to hear of Nancy's passing. Nancy was a very special LADY and everyone who knew her would say the same. It is hard to let go of someone you love, but her life long love had gone on before her and knowing that they are together again brings us great happiness. Nancy touched so many lives in her 86 years here on earth. Everyone who ever had any association with her would tell you that she was full of Grace, Love and a Giving heart that only a few special people are blessed with. We feel very honored to have known such a special "Lady". May God feel your hearts with the love and joy that Nancy has shown everyone through her years.
Love you guys. Sandy and Tim

Jeff, Mark & JJ, I am so sorry that I cannot be at the celebration of & farewell to your mother on Dec 9th, 2010. I will be there in spirit and please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers during this time and accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Your mother was a remarkable, kind, generous, fun, lovely and loved woman. I can't remeber when I did not know her, growing up in Jefferson, being a member of the same church and, for better worse, being your parents' babysitter. After I left Ashe County I always relished my visits with your Mom and Dad when I came back to Jefferson to visit with my parents. Since they passed, I seldom have come to Jefferson, but amazingly I happened to be in Jefferson last week, a few days before your Mom's death. I had the privilege of sitting by her hospital bedside and had a great final visit with her. As usual, she was gracious as ever. Nancy is one of my great role models. Goodbye Nancy and love to all of you and your families. Joy Blevins, Los Angeles, CA

To The Johnston Family:
Nancy was absolutely one of the most special people that I have ever met. I met her through the American Heart Association when I started working for them. She took me under her wing, introduced me to the volunteers in Ashe and showed me the ropes. She was and still is an inspiration and demonstrates perfectly that "one person can truly make a difference". She was an awesome person and truly gave 110% effort in everything that she did.
She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I have such warm and wonderful memories of Nancy. She always had such a beautiful smile and welcoming countenance. A positive attitude and a gracious spirit flowed from Nancy to others. I will never forget Nancy agreeing to direct Karen's and my wedding in August of 1981 at Jefferson UMC...true to her personality, she was able to keep things moving and organized and yet doing so with such grace and the use of humor. Jeff, Mark, John and family, Karen and I are blessed to have known Nancy in our lives and our thoughts and prayers go out to you. May you know and experience God's comfort and peace during this time of grief and loss. Michael and Karen Kurtz
