Mrs. Hazel Virginia Childers Yates, age 86, of Monroe, formerly of Ashe County, passed away Tuesday morning, December 21, 2010 at Rehab & Nursing Center of Monroe. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Threatt and Rev. Jeff Nave officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Yates was born in Ashe County on Sunday, September 7, 1924 to the late Arthur Franklin and Elizabeth Wyatt Childers. She worked at Sprague Electric and later retired from Leviton Mfg. She was a member of Warrensville Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reece Yates, a daughter, Linda Yates, a brother, Delmer Childers, two infant sisters and a brother-in-law, Gene Miller. Mrs. Yates is survived by a daughter, Mary Taylor and husband, John Paul, of Monroe; two brothers, Roger Childers and wife, Barbara, of Jefferson and James Childers and wife, Janet, of Kernersville; three sisters, Eva Miller, of Warrensville, Josephine Childers, of Warrensville and Betty Norris and husband, Ronnie, of Todd; a sister-in-law, Alma Childers, of Walnut cove, NC; two granddaughters, Pamela Robinson and Lora Abernathy; six great-grandchildren, Will Robinson, Wyatt Robinson, Reece Robinson, Abbi Robinson, Olivia Abernathy and Sean Abernathy; several nieces and nephews also survive.
