Mr. Lester Lee Roop, better known as "Les" age 86, of Lansing, passed away Saturday morning, December 25, 2010 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Tuesday, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Roop was born in Ashe County on Friday, September 5, 1924 to the late Charles (Charlie) Andrew and Nettie Miller Roop. He worked at Lansing Milling Company. He will be missed by all but mostly for his friendliness, waving at everyone from his front porch. He is survived by a son, Benny Roop, and wife, Carol, of Lansing; a daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) McNeill and husband, Larry, of Lansing; three granddaughters, Brandy Scott, of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Miller, of Crumpler and Allison Roop, of Johnson City, TN; two step granddaughters; three great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews also survive. The family respectively requests no food please!
