Obituary of Luke "Bud" Eller

Mr. Luke "Bud" Eller, age 79, of Lansing, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Eller Cemetery on the Parker-Eller Road in Lansing. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service. He was born September 22, 1931 in Lansing, NC to the late James Franklin Eller and Edith Farmer Eller. He was also preceded in death by his half-brothers, Blaine Eller, Lane Eller, Parker Eller and Ted Eller; a nephew, Michael L. Hurley. He is survived by a sister, Wanda Hurley and husband, Max, of West Jefferson; a niece, Shannon Hurley and husband, Graham Green, of Winston-Salem, NC; a great nephew, Garrison Luke Green, of Winston-Salem, NC; a half sister-in-law, Viola (Parker) Eller. He is also survived by several half-nieces, half-nephews and cousins. Mr. Eller was a great keeper of family history. His family loved to hear him tell stories of roaming the mountains as a young man and of working the fields with a team of mules. He could always be counted on to be well-informed regarding the latest news and political issues. He was a knowledgeable and straightforward man who will be missed.
